Which training option is best for you?

Training is of great importance in the workplace. OSHA, the EPA, and DOT have many standards in place to ensure that training is kept up to date and that workers are kept safe. When deciding which training method is best, there are many factors to consider.

Online Training

Pros:

  1. There is no need to travel, training is at the click of a button
  2. Training is self-paced
  3. Most effective for low hazard training

Cons:

  1. An online 40 hour training will more than likely end up taking more than 40 hours
  2. Trainees have less of a desire to pay attention, there are more distractions and can result in failed tests and quizzes throughout the online training
  3. No real time Q&A sessions
  4. Limited training customization available

In-Person Training

Pros:

  1. An engaging trainer will keep the attention and foster engagement of trainees
  2. Training is more customized to real world experiences
  3. Flexible scheduling to work around busy work schedules
    1. In many cases, from the start of training, trainees have approximately 6 months to complete training; this allows for flexible scheduling
    2. Elk Environmental trains during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts
  4. Can be more cost-effective, depending on how many people need training
  5. Real time Q&A sessions

Cons:

1. The wrong trainer will not keep the attention and foster engagement of trainees

2. Scheduling multiple people within a company to attend one training can be difficult
