To help ensure workers get the OSHA training they need, many companies offer an annual training session. One of these companies is D&B Construction Group (D&B). They recently held their annual OSHA training for field staff, VPs, and sales and marketing team as well as project coordinators of their pre-construction department in training. Safety is not only a key part of a successful project, but it’s also part of a company’s culture. This is evident at D&B. Jess Nelis, D&B’s Operations Manager, explains the importance safety in that it “… isn’t in one person’s job description, but rather everyone’s responsibility. Safety is imbedded in the culture at D&B because we care. Although it’s important to complete our jobs on time and on budget, people matter most, and we want to make sure every team member returns home safely each day.

Below are some important reminders and facts D&B employees learned from Elk’s Jamie Caron:

  • Over 5,600 Americans die from workplace injuries annually. Over 4 million non-fatal workplace injuries and illnesses are reported each year. It is estimated that triple this number are not reported.
  • While hard hats last five years, harnesses don’t technically have an expiration date. They only need to be replaced if involved in a fall, which is why it is important to always inspect them regularly.
  • Scaffolding must be a minimum of 10 feet from electrical lines.
  • Regulation states that you need to be OSHA 10 certified to use a fire extinguisher. Knowing what is burning is vital in determining what type of extinguisher is best to use to put out the fire.
  • In the last six years in Pennsylvania, seven people have been injured from snowblower projectiles hitting people.
  • Toeboards must be at least 3.5 inches tall.

If you were surprised from any of these facts, you aren’t alone. Thus, safety is a vital part of any job and workplace. Contact us today if you would like to learn more and/or to schedule a training with us.
